Pancreatic stem cells also known as Pancreatic progenitor cells are multipotent stem cells originating from developing fore-gut endoderm which have the ability to differentiate into the lineage specific progenitors responsible for the developing pancreas. It gives rise to both the endocrine and exocrine cells. Exocrine cells consists of acinar cells and the ductal cells whereas endocrine cells consists of beta cells which make insulin, alpha cells which in turn secrete glucagon, delta cells which secrete somatostatin and PP-cells in turn secrete pancreatic polypeptide.
