Chrishantha Abeysena is a professor in the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. Currently he is the Chairperson of the Board of Study in Community Medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) of the University of Colombo. He was a former head of the Department and a former Deputy Director of the PGIM. He obtained MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo and MD from the PGIM. He completed his post-doctoral training in Monash University, Australia. He is a Board certified specialist in Community Medicine. Throughout his distinguish career he has published extensively in the areas of maternal and child health, non-communicable disease and epidemiological methods. He has over 22 years of experience in Public Health. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health.
